This week's pictures from the past
This week's pictures from the past include an outing to the Llangollen cattle market in around 1920, a lovely picture of the Long Mynd in what appears to be the 1970s and an undated view of Llanymynech Church and Hill.
Mr Harry Jones, who will be 92 in October, loaned us this picture which shows a Hindford Methodist Chapel outing - and a very young Mr Jones is somewhere on that crammed charabanc.
He says: "The photo was taken in the entrance to Llangollen cattle market alongside the then fire station. It was taken about 1920.
"I don't remember if they were going any further or just topping up with water before attempting the Horseshoe Pass.
"My mum and dad and two older sisters, Mary and Edith, and one baby sister, Joyce, are part of the people on the charabanc. We lived down the lane in Hindford (near Whittington) at the time, at 9 Rose Cottage.
"My dad's name was George Jones and my mum was Eliza. I was on this trip, of course, aged about four years."
Mr Jones, from Rhos-y-Waun, Chirk, added: "Just behind the driver's side there's a little child with a white bonnet, being held up - it is my dad holding her up. You can just see his face behind her. My mother is standing up to the right of that child."
Mr Jones is not certain where he is on the picture.nextpage
This should bring back memories for older folk connected to Pontesbury, as it shows Pontesbury and District Male Voice Choir in January 1952.
The photo was loaned to us by Evelyn Corfield, who is on the front row. She was the accompanist. These days she lives in Whittington.
Those on the photo are identified as, back, from left: Alan Sambrook, Geoff Sambrook, Charlie Roberts, Harry Challinor, Brian Heath, Ken Evans, Ern Challinor.
Next row down: Dickie Jones, George Millward, Walter Trow, John Pugh, Bert Jones, Sam Overton, Alan Hartshorn, Graham Jones.
Next row: Billy Jones, "Billum" Jones, Bill Cleaton, Tom Corfield, Jack Overton, Neddy Challinor, and Jack Young.
Front: Brian Davies, Bert Challinor, Jim Jones (conductor), Evelyn Corfield (accompanist), Sam Thomas, Bill Titley, Len Titley, and Tom Brick.
A recent photo in Pictures From The Past showing staff at RAF High Ercall in the 1950s prompted a Shropshire lad, Clifford Williams - who these days lives at Verwood, Dorset - to e-mail this photo, which was also taken at the base, around 1955 or 1956.
Mr Williams says it shows all trades who were in the jet hangar which was known as B shed. They are in front of a Venom aircraft.
"You can see the Group Captain made sure his dog went with him," he says.
Mr Williams is back row, third from left.
Here's a bit of a picture puzzle which our readers might just possibly be able to solve. This photo was e-mailed in by Megan Beddoes, of Churchstoke, who says: "It was given to me among others belonging to my family.
"I am doing some family research and I am fairly certain it has a connection with my family on my maternal side (the surnames of which are Hughes, Morris, Davies).
"I recognise the lady second from the right (sitting) from another family photo who may be my maternal grandmother, Sarah Jane Hughes. I wonder if anyone recognises other faces in this group and can date it."
There is a sign in the background which may be a clue as to the location. "It is very blurred, but the top line says 'L.R. Green' and second from the bottom is 'Painter', and on the bottom line what looks like '& paper' followed by about another six or seven letters.
"If it is my maternal family, their family names were Hughes and Davies and they lived in the Welshpool and Buttington areas. It is important to me because granny died young and there is very little information about the family."
So can you help? As to the date, we can have a stab at that from the fashions - around 1920, say? And could it actually be a wedding group? Over to you...nextpage
Forming the backdrop to this photo is the beautiful Long Mynd, while in the foreground we have a glimpse of Freddie Brown's garage at Church Stretton.
Judging by the cars, it looks like the photo was taken in the 1970s.
We wonder what the price of the petrol at the pumps would have been then.
This picture comes from Ron Morris, of Dorrington, who used to live opposite the service station, and came to us via Shrewsbury historian and author David Trumper.
One or two older Salopians may recognise themselves or their childhood pals on this picture. It was loaned to us by Mr Jim Kelsall, and is thought to be at the Lion Hotel, Shrewsbury, around the 1950s.
Mr Kelsall, who is from an old Shrewsbury family - although he lives in Oswestry now - thinks this might either be a Christmas party or connected with the Joan Kelsall School of Dancing, run by his sister Joan.
He says on the front row, the girl near centre appearing to tie her laces is Pauline Onions or Rosemary Onions.
The boy on the right near the front standing in a medium grey suit and looking to one side is his brother, Ron Kelsall.nextpage
This undated view of Llanymynech Church and Hill is from a postcard loaned to us by Mrs Diana Humphreys of Maesbrook. The 1920s, maybe?
Llanymynech Hill has been suggested in recent years as the site for the last stand of the historical British chieftain Caractacus against the Roman invaders, which has never been positively identified.
However, there are plenty of other claimants too.
