Officers arrested a man on suspicion of theft and interfering with a motor vehicle shortly after 8pm on Saturday in Shrewsbury.
He has been interviewed and released on police bail pending further enquiries.
The Pentax Optio WPi digital camera was recovered at the time of the arrest and police investigating the case believe it may have been stolen.
It is hoped the owners of the camera will recognise themselves in these pictures or that friends and family may be able to alert them that their property has been found. The police have blacked out the faces for privacy.
Sergeant Andy Jackson, from Shrewsbury Police, said the camera contains dozens of images of a couple who appeared to be middle aged.
He said officers are keen to trace the owners and return the pictures and the camera to them.
He said: "The photos have been taken in various locations around the world, including America, what looks like the Caribbean and the Bavaria region of Germany.
"One of the photos shows a lady outside The Charles Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts.
"There are also images of two small dogs and I would appeal to anyone who thinks the camera belongs to them to please get in touch.
"This is a very high quality camera and I would ask anyone who recognises the images or the two dogs appearing in one to please contact us."
If anyone does recognise the people in the picture or thinks they may know who the camera belongs to, they are asked to contact Shrewsbury Police on 08457 444888.
