Dedicated Shropshire volunteer Pearl Maiden has been named our Star Woman of the Year 2007.
Together with best friend Janet Groves she helped to establish Mark's Pit-Stop, a place where people who are homeless or who have damaged lives can find a warm welcome and some much-needed support.
Guest speaker Baroness Sayeeda Warsi presented the prizes to Pearl, from Telford, runners-up Emma Suddaby from Ford, near Shrewsbury and Val Hanover from Oswestry, and our five other finalists.
