Woman taken to hospital with 'potentially serious' injuries, man arrested after rush hour M54 crash

A woman was taken to hospital with "potentially serious" injuries after a rush hour crash on the M54 while a man was arrested at the scene.

Two cars collided on Friday morning on the westbound M54 near Junction 7, for Wellington/Cluddley. A woman was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital, while a man was arrested on suspicion of taking a motor vehicle without consent.

The ambulance service was called out at 8.43am. A statement from the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene.

"Upon arrival we found a woman who was the driver of one of the cars. She had sustained potentially serious injuries.

"She received treatment at the scene before being conveyed to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further assessment. No further patients required treatment.”

A statement from West Mercia Police said: "At approximately 8.50am this morning police responded to a two-vehicle collision on the M54 on the westbound carriageway near to Junction 7.

"West Midlands Ambulance service attended and took a woman to hospital. A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene of the collision [on suspicion of] taking a motor vehicle without consent. He is currently still in custody.

"The vehicles were recovered at around 9.40am."
