'Prime' Ludlow housing land is up for sale

A controversial Ludlow residential development site with planning permission for 215 homes has been put up for sale.

The planning inspector overturned a decision by Shropshire Council to refuse the plans for the homes off Bromfield Road in Ludlow in 2015.

At the time, Ludlow councillor Andy Boddington said he was "furious" about the decision, which was taken because Inspector Brian J Sims said the socio-economic benefits of the plans outweighed the "small degree of environmental harm".

Now the 26-acre development site has been put up for sale before any work has begun.

The site, which is nearly 26 acres, is off the A49 and Bromfield Road, near the River Corve. The asking price has not been disclosed, but will be revealed to interested parties.

"This site arguably offers the most prime remaining residential development opportunity in Ludlow," said James Evans from Halls Commercial, which is marketing the site alongside Leominster-based John Amos & Co.

Planning consent allows for 215 homes, a commercial building and/or neighbourhood store, a public open space, access roads and junctions, pedestrian footbridges and associated engineering and accommodation works.

The footbridge connecting the site to the cul-de-sac Fishmore View was a particular bone of contention when the original proposals were aired, but were approved by the planning inspector.
