Ford’s GT supercar may already be one of the most hardcore performance machines around, but the firm has taken it a step further with this — the GT Carbon Series.

It takes the base second-generation GT and drops weight by ‘approximately’ 18kg thanks to the addition of carbon fibre wheels, a polycarbonate rear hatch, plus wheel nuts and an exhaust made from titanium.

Although these additions have been made to make the supercar more track-focused, it retains some creature comforts to make the journey home from the circuit bearable. These include the retention of air conditioning and Ford’s Sync3 infotainment system complete with radio — just don’t plan on picking a coffee up along the way, as the cupholders have been taken out.

Giving the Carbon Series a standout look from other GTs are exposed carbon fibre stripes running the length of the car, complete with matching A-pillars and lower body panels, while optional accent colours for the are available for the centre stripe, mirror caps and brake callipers. Inside the Ford GT Carbon Series, matte-finish carbon fibre also features on the air register pods and centre console.

Performance remains untouched, meaning the GT still boasts 647bhp and 746Nm of torque from its mid-mounted 3.5-litre turbocharged V6 engine. As a result, it can cover 0-60mph in three seconds before reaching a 216mph top speed.

Earlier this month, Ford announced it had extended its production allocation the GT from 1,000 to 1,350 cars — resulting in a two-year extension of its build run to 2022. The first example was built in 2016.
