Mercedes-AMG updates high-performance C63 with new look and dynamic upgrades
German firm has fitted a new transmission and driving modes to better suit driving conditions

Mercedes-AMG has given its high-performance C63 models a revamp with an improved interior and the promise of better driving dynamics.
Revealed at the New York motor show, the upgrades are available across all four C63 body shapes in the guise of saloon, coupe, estate and cabriolet.
Under the bonnet, the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine is offered in two outputs. In standard C63 form, it makes 469bhp, while in C63 S trim it provides 503bhp. In coupe form, that results in impressive acceleration of 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 180mph.

A new AMG Dynamics system has also been introduced, which works behind the scenes depending on which of the six drive modes have been selected (Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Race, or Individual) to adapt the car’s responses to the driving characteristics required.
These range from safety-orientated measures that limit power and keep traction aids in place, to a “master” system for sporty driving, which sharpens response and puts more responsibility on the driver to not lose control.

On the outside, subtle changes bring the C63 further in line with other AMG models, with a new vertical radiator grille in glossy chrome, a redesigned front bumper and reshaped air inlets. At the rear, the exhaust exits have been remodelled, while the diffuser has been given a more aggressive look.
For owners keen to take their car on track, the data logging system – which is standard on C63 S models and optional on the standard C63 – has been expanded.
Tobias Moers, chief executive of Mercedes-AMG, said: “The AMG C-Class is our best-selling model series and therefore a key cornerstone of our company’s success of recent years.
“We have therefore increasingly expanded our C-Class offer: customers can now choose between 12 models from the C-Class family. As part of the latest facelift, we have upgraded all variants of the model series even more substantially.

Because of the increased equipment levels, prices have gone up. The least expensive in the line-up is the C63 saloon, which starts at £64,000 – up £3,500 compared with the outgoing model. The C63 S saloon costs from £73,000 – up £5,700.
