Ferrari has revealed an upgraded aerodynamics package and weight-saving measures for the FXX-K, its ultra-exclusive track car.

Called FXX-K Evo, the modified track-only hypercar makes an astonishing 23 per cent more downforce than its predecessor, measuring 640kg at 124mph.

Ferrari engineers looked to the company’s motorsport programmes to help improve downforce, with more than a year of wind tunnel testing and computer simulations resulting in figures close to those seen on GT3 racers.

Aerodynamic improvements come in many forms, such as a new two-stage rear spoiler that works in tandem with the active rear spoiler, and three fins that control the air flow from vortex generators.

At the front of the car, the bumper design was tweaked, with the positioning of horizontal and vertical blades altered to direct air more efficiently.

Despite these bodywork additions, the FXX-K Evo is lighter than the car it builds on. Ferrari says this was achieved by using a new carbon-fibre crafting process developed by its Formula 1 team.

The FXX-K is based on the LaFerrari hypercar, and uses the same 6.3-litre V12 and electric motor hybrid system. The powertrain has an output of 1,036bhp and more than 900Nm of torque, though Ferrari has not revealed acceleration or top speed figures for this track-focused version.

Ferrari’s XX programme is for a small number of the Italian car maker’s most valued customers. The cars are built for the track, and Ferrari holds on to them until specially designated track days, when owners are allowed to drive them. There will be nine such events in the 2018/19 season.

Existing FXX-K owners can upgrade their cars, while Ferrari is also releasing a small number of new FXX-K Evo models.
