The woman, who has not been named, was helped from the property, in Hiatt Avenue, Wellington, on Sunday afternoon after an overheated pan cooking vegetables caught fire.

A relative told the Shropshire Star: "She is okay. She put the sprouts pan on and it seems that she fell over and as a result the pan got overheated."

Emergency crews used breathing gear to tackle the kitchen incident when they were called to the scene at about 2pm, following reports someone was inside.

Three crews based at Telford Central and Wellington fire stations and an operations officer went to the scene where she was given first aid and oxygen until paramedics arrived.

She was treated at the scene by emergency crews.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman Claire Brown said: “We got a call a 2.02pm and an ambulance and two paramedics attended.

“We accessed one patient, an elderly woman who was treated at the scene and did not require hospital treatment.

Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service stated: “This incident involved a fire caused by cooking. One casualty rescued and left in care of ambulance.”
