The Platinum Jubilee bench is one of a number which have been added as part of improvements to Shifnal's town centre.

Shifnal Town Council has confirmed that it has instructed the removal of one of its town-centre benches after it became aware it features the words 'Platinum Jubliee 2022' and not 'Platinum Jubilee 2022' as intended.

The seating is one of a number of ornate benches that feature as part of the newly redeveloped town centre – which saw a range of improvements carried out under a £3.6m scheme from Shropshire Council.

The town council said that the bench in question would be rectified under the warranty with the manufacturer.

The metal bench features detailed cut-outs which include three crowns on the backrest, and the wording on the seat.

A spokesman for Shifnal Town Council said: "The council are aware of the mistake and have instructed the removal of the bench for rectification works under the manufacturer warranty."
