A crew from Newport was sent to investigate after Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service received a call classified as smoke in area at Wellington Road, Church Aston at 8.12pm.
But it took the crew a matter of minutes to report that there was nothing to worry about.
A spokesman for Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "Reports of smell of smoke in the area proved to be a false alarm."
The service's stand down message was sent at 8.30pm.
