Nursery celebrates its 28th birthday
A group of nurseries has been celebrating 28 years in business.
ABC Day Nursery in Telford opened its doors on January 11, 1993, with just six children and seven staff, but 28 years later has now cared for around 1,500 youngsters.
ABD has grown to the point where is has Ofsted rated outstanding nurseries in Hollinswood, Hadley, Hoo Farm and Lightmoor.
The last year has been a challenging one in the face of an unprecedented pandemic but the nursery is still going strong and has been a lifeline for parents who have needed to carry on working through three lockdowns.
Owner Penny Hustwick said: “It is incredible to think that we are celebrating our 28th anniversary in 2021, but the ABC mantra remains the same as it was on day one – providing the highest standard of care for our children in a warm, safe and relaxing atmosphere.
“Without a doubt 2020 was the hardest year in the history of the business but I have been so proud of our wonderful staff whose dedication and hard work has allowed us to stay open throughout – lockdown one for key workers and lockdown three for all children.
“It has been extremely tough on those providing nursery care and been very sad to see nurseries unable to open with, unfortunately, many having to close for good, but we have not missed a single day, allowing people to work on the front line.
“Another highlight of the last year has to be all four ABC nurseries once again being rated outstanding by Ofsted inspectors – maintaining our highly enviable record of excellence in child care provision. It’s a marvellous achievement and one we are immensely proud of.
“We were one of the first nurseries in the country to adopt The Curiosity Approach – a truly innovative programme in early learning, something our children continue to benefit from and it’s been great to see so many others across the country taking it up.
“Reaching our 28-year milestone is a fantastic feeling and I must thank all the staff, parents and children during that time who have helped and supported everything we have achieved at ABC Day Nursery.
“When I started my first nursery at Wrockwardine, which later moved to Hoo Farm, I had high hopes and plenty of ambition but I could never have dreamt ABC would have been this successful. One of our strengths is fostering a real family atmosphere and I think it’s a measure of our success that children we have cared for over the years and their parents come back and see us – it’s wonderful to hear about how they are getting on."
