Stepping out to raise Parkinson's awareness
Cheers! Dozens of walkers put their best feet forward for a "Pint for Parkinson's" event organised by Telford Centre Rotary Club.
Walkers were invited to come to Little Wenlock for a short walk around the village and then enjoy a pint in the bar of the Huntsman pub in an event to coincide with Parkinson's Awareness Week.
"It went superbly," said one of the organisers, Alan West, of the club.
Members of various local Rotary clubs took part.
"There were about 35 to 40 on the bench walk and we all then adjourned to the Hunstman in Little Wenlock where we had a very nice meal.
"The aim was to provide an evening in which people could get together in friendship and raise awareness of Parkinson's.
"Although the intention was not of fundraising we collected £70 in donations on the night which were very gratefully received.
"The bench walk was very muddy, as it was on the borders of fields as well as Tarmac, but it was a lovely walk showing all the views."
Alan did not walk himself, instead being involved in the admin, checking the walkers out and back.
As well as being in Telford Centre Rotary Club, he is group leader of Telford & Wrekin Parkinson's Support Group.
"I've had Parkinson's for nine and a half years now. We have held similar events for the last five years."
