Money website for Church Stretton pool

A group fighting to secure the future of a town's swimming pool and leisure centre has launched a new on-line fundraising page.

The Stretton Pool Action group, which was formed last year to lobby Shropshire Council for the retention of the pool at Teme Church Stretton, now has its own easyfundraising page, where those who sign up can collect donations for the cause every time they buy something online.

Campaigner Denise Cottam said: "We need to show that our public swimming pool, a vital local asset, can be managed with the dry side facilities in a sustainable and self-financing manner.

"SPA truly believes our pool should be kept open and wants to bring this great facility up to modern day standards.

"All donations made through easyfundraising will go towards keeping swimming in the Strettons.

"It won't cost you a penny extra so please help us to raise funds."

Under Shropshire Council's new indoor leisure strategy the authority has said it wants to keep a leisure centre in Church Stretton, but it will be a "tier two" facility, meaning it will lose council funding by the end of 2022/23.

The council hopes a community group will take on the running of the centre and alternative funding can be found.
