Super heroes sweep into Shrewsbury ahead of comic festival
Comic heroes have been in Shrewsbury to promote the town's spectacular Comic Salopia in June.
Three Comic Con enthusiasts gave up their time to encourage shoppers in the Darwin Centre to visit the festival with a difference on June 1 and 2.
One of the enthusiasts, Pip Bayley, is an illustrator.
"I dress up because it is a fun thing to do and because I am passionate about Comics Salopia," he said.
"It really has attracted the highest pedigree of people in the comic world.
"They love Shropshire and Shrewsbury and are really looking forward to coming to the town."
He said that the festival had been organised to appeal to people of all ages, from Peppa Pig workshops for the very young, to the Walking Dead and many others for the adults.
Venues include the Castle Grounds, the Dana Prison, Shrewsbury University and the Museum and Art Gallery, which is hosting an exhibition by Charlie Adlard of Walking Dead fame.
Visitors can also enjoy film screenings, Jedi fight training, face painting, a small press comics market in the square, an interactive Judge Dredd event, live music, boat trips, a Zombie Walk, a Cosplay competition and live art events all weekend plus lots lots more.
Some of the world’s finest illustrators and comics writers live in or around Shrewsbury and are giving their backing to the festival.
The creators of Beanos’ Dennis the Menace and Minnie the Minx will be showcasing their work at the event.
Dundee-based comics publisher DC Thomson and Beano Studios will be bringing the mischief and fun of Beano to the festival, joining the event’s other partner, Redan Publishing, famed for Peppa Pig,in making the free Kids Zone at the library the go-to destination for youngsters.
A special app has also been launched which will allow people to get involved in the lead-up to the weekend event.
