Sketch hunt draws a blank
A hunt to find a mystery artist who sketched an organist in concert in Shrewsbury nearly 20 years ago has drawn a blank.
Shropshire Theatre Organ Trust had been trying to find the person who had done a pen and ink sketch when Robert Wolfe was in action on the Wurlitzer organ at The Buttermarket in November 1997.
Signed by Wolfe, and framed by the Lamplight Gallery in Abbey Foregate, the sketch titled "Pa and Me" had turned up recently on an auction site.
Wolfe made a return to Shrewsbury on March 19 when he appeared in concert a second time, but was unable to shed further light on matters.
"Although the organist remembered the sketch, we were not able to find out who the artist was," said Darren Jones of the trust.
But the show goes on, and the Wurlitzer theatre organ will be in action again in a trust concert on April 16 when it will be played by Richard Morgan and Michael Carter. Venue is The Buttermarket at Shrewsbury, with the concert from 2.30pm to 5pm. Cost is £6 on the door. More details from www.shropshiretheatreorganturst.co.uk
