Spring is served up at field centre

Countryside sayings such as 'Mad as a March Hare' can sometimes cause confusion.

As part of the Growing Confidence (GC) project and to celebrate British Science week workers at the Fields Studies Council at Preston Montford near Shrewsbury are inviting young people aged 11-25 to their field centre next Saturday (MAR 18) to get involved in a campaign to look out for the signs of spring and help build a picture of what’s happening around the UK.

Growing Confidence Project Officer Cathy Preston said: ‘We’ll spend the day finding out about cuckoos, cuckoo flowers and all things ‘spring like’ in and around the ponds, meadows and woods at FSC Preston Montford.

"We’ll be encouraging people to keep on wildlife spotting after the event whether in their garden, in the park or in the countryside. We want as many people as possible to send their spring sightings to Nature’s Calendar which helps scientists investigate how climatechange is affecting nature."

Growing Confidence is part of the Our Bright Future programme, a £33 million Big Lottery Funded movement that is empowering young people to lead progressive change in their communities and local environment.

The event takes place on March 18 between 10am and 4 pm. There is no charge but booking is essential so if you would like to come along please contact Cathy Preston for more information or to book cathy.pm@field-studies- council.org or call 01743 852040.
