Charity fundraiser for Africa
A luxury touring and glamping resort, which is due to open in Shrewsbury at Easter, is sponsoring an event to raise money for a charity that supports self-sufficiency in Africa.
Sponsorship from Love2Stay, a new £4 million resort located on a 22-acre site adjacent to Salop Leisure’s Emstrey headquarters, will go towards the cost of organising Shrewsbury Secret Supper on April 25.
Six of the best restaurants in the town centre will take part in the secret dining event to raise money for town-based charity Self Help Africa to launch this year’s Shrewsbury Food Festival. Last year’s secret supper attracted 228 guests and raised £4,629.
Steph Smith, Self Help Africa’s fundraising officer, explained that the guests will gather for a welcome drink at Tanners Wines before they are taken to three secret restaurants where they will be treated to a starter, main course and dessert during the evening.
The locations of the restaurants and the dishes guests will be eating are kept secret until the night of the event, which marks the launch of this year’s Shrewsbury Food Festival to be held on June 24 and 25.
“This is our fourth secret supper event and we’ve received fantastic feedback in the past, with many guests eager to return,” said Steph. “The aim is to take about 40 people to each restaurant, which are within a 10-minute walk of each other.
“The secret supper is growing every year and it’s great that Love2Stay has agreed to sponsor this year’s event, which will hopefully raise more than £5,000.”
Tickets for the three-course secret supper cost £32.50 per person and can be purchased online at Self Help Africa https://selfhelpafrica.org/uk/secret-supper- 2017/ or by calling Steph on 01743 277170.
Based in Shrewsbury, Self Help Africa is an international charity which works in nine African countries. Driven by a vision of a rural Africa free from hunger and poverty, the charity supports farmers to grow more food, increase their income from farming activities and become self-sufficient.
Ed Glover, Love2Stay’s marketing manager, said: “The resort is keen to forge a good relationship with restaurants in Shrewsbury and the secret supper is a perfect way to do that whilst also raising money for an excellent charity.
“Hopefully, some of our customers will take advantage of the opportunity to sample Shrewsbury’s fine dining during their stay at the resort.”
Love2Stay is a pioneering development with 120 fully serviced touring pitches, 20 luxury glamping safari lodges, a fitness and wellness centre, a BIOTOP natural pool, bootcamp, assault course, a recreation pool and a Cinedrome.
