Councillors were due to discuss the plans for the biggest development for the town in decades at a meeting at the Shirehall in Shrewsbury.

Residents fear that the new homes will see nearby roads used as rat runs by those moving onto the new estate.

But council planners have recommended granting planning permission after hearing from highways officers that there are no transport issues.

Earlier this year the Government announced a £9.3 million housing infrastructure grant to improve two roundabouts on the Oswestry bypass and build a third on the Shrewsbury Road to open the way for the planning application by J Ross Developments to be put to Shropshire councillors.

The land between the bypass, the Shrewsbury Road and the eastern Oswestry housing estates is part of the proposed sustainable urban development for the town.
