Lurchers thrown onto road
The A5 in Shropshire has become the dumping ground for lurcher dogs a charity has said after two died and another survived being abandoned this week.
On Monday night two of the dogs, used for hunting, were dumped by the A5/A483 Gobowen roundabout on the Oswestry bypass.
One was hit by traffic and died, the other was rescued by a motorist and is now in the local authority dog pound to see if its owner will come forward.
The latest incident follows the death of a lurcher at the Shottaton crossroads last week.
Hayley Bradley, from the Hector's greyhound rescue charity said a pattern was emerging of the area being used as a dumping ground for unwanted animals.
Hayley spearheaded the hunt for a lurcher that was seen near the A5 on Christmas day. Scores of people helped look for the dog who was eventually capture and is now, christened Miles, is with foster parents while its injuries are being looked after.
She appealed for help in tracing the culprits.
"Two dogs we know of have died and I am worried that there could be an awful accident," she said.
"These dogs are terrified and they have just been thrown out onto a busy road, probably in the dark. They will just run and run."
"People must know what is going on, there is a sinister pattern emerging her of dogs being abandoned."
She said anyone with information could contact the charity on its website www.hectorsgreyhoundrescue.org.
The dog rescued after being abandoned on Christmas day is doing well, Hayley said.
"He has just has laser treatment for wounds to his legs. He still has a long way to go but he is being well looked after by lovely foster parents."
