BID chairman stands down
The chairman of the Oswestry BID group has stood down from his post.
Gary Ridgway has spent a year galvanising support for the project to get the market town to be named a Business Improvement District.
In an email to the group he said he was stepping down with immediate effect.
Mr Ridgway said: "Voluntary work is nice but it takes a lot of time. It was time to step down, I needed to earn some money."
He said he would keep a keen eye on the BID project.
Vice-chairman, Mr Ian Follington, said a meeting of the BID working group would be held on April 25 to continue the positive work to take Oswestry forward.
"Whoever takes over as chairman is not as important as making sure that we move forward. We want to hear from everyone about what they want the BID to achieve," he said.
If businesses vote in favour of becoming a BID town they will then pay a small percentage of their business rate, as little as one per cent, towards BID. That money can also be used as match funding to attract more grants for the town.
A vote is expected between October and early in 2018.
