Review of Welsh reservoirs needed to prevent flooding downstream
Flooding downstream of the Lake Vyrnwy Reservoir and Clywedog Dam have left local landowners exasperated at what the say is a lack of action from Government agencies.

With water overflowing from both structures the Montgomeryshire Welsh Assembly Member, Russell George and farmer and County Councillor for Meifod, Councillor Jonathan Wilkinson said an urgent review of operations at the two mid Wales reservoirs should be carried out.
They say that while the reservoirs provide fresh water for the UK, the dams should also be used to prevent flooding downstream both in Powys and in Shropshire.
The releases of water are carried out by the Environment Agency, in agreement with Natural Resources Wales and the operation of both dams, is regulated as part of an agreement which provides operating curves and drawdown curves for certain times of the year.
Mr George took the opportunity of raising the ongoing flooding issues in the Welsh Parliament with the Welsh Government Minister for Environment, Lesley Griffiths AM.
