Expert Alan to open Claverley history exhibition
Transport expert Alan Reade will be guest opener of an exhibition organised by Claverley Memories Local History Society.
Called People, Places, and Events, it is at the village hall from July 8 to 11 with the opening ceremony at 2pm.
John Burns of the history society said: "During his career as a civil engineer he developed a keen interest in the history of the local infrastructure and is considered an expert.
"He is a good friend of Claverley Memories and has given a number of interesting presentations about the local roads, canals and railways. He is also an accomplished artist and a keen supporter of the Severn Valley Railway. He has published a range of postcards and greetings cards with railway themes, which will be on sale at the exhibition.
"Alan is a valued member of the Claverley community with an eclectic range of interests. These include campanology and he organises the Claverley Bell Ringers. He is an ideal choice to open our exhibition and we are delighted he accepted our invitation."
Through the use of photographs, documents, certificates and personal items through time, the stories of people, places and events in Claverley will be featured in the exhibition.
"Bridgnorth Library branch manager Emma Spenser will attend on Saturday and Monday with a display and will be available to answer questions or queries people may have about Bridgnorth, the library and Shropshire Archives. Dominic Spenser is a collector of military memorabilia and he will be exhibiting many of his artifacts and uniforms on the same days as Emma. Dominic will be available to answer questions about the military and the Land Army.
"Our researchers will be available for help with any history or family history questions, not necessarily just about Claverley.
"We hope that the exhibition will have a wide appeal to the many visitors who come to see us and our popular Claverley Flower Festival, which is open from July 8 to 10."
