Walford and North Shropshire College offers the new Certificate of Competence in line with the new Government legislation for transport of animals by road (short journeys).

From January 5, 2008, all transporters or attendants using road vehicles for transporting farm animals, poultry or horses over 65km and for up to eight hours in connection with an economic activity must hold a Certificate of Competence.

Walford and North Shropshire College is now an approved provider with the NPTC (National Proficiency Tests Council) to offer this legislative certificate.

The certificate will be awarded to candidates who achieve the required level of competence, and this will be done with an on-line computer based multiple-choice assessment.

For the vast majority of candidates training will not be required. However, if anyone feels they need training, the college can make provision for this.

Registration and assessments will be co-ordinated by Caroline Whiteman, rural skills co-ordinator. All assessments will be delivered at the Walford Campus, Baschurch.

The minimum age limit for candidates is 16. There is no upper age limit. The assessments will be available from October. The cost per person is £50, to include the registration, assessment and certificate. If training is required there would be an additional cost.

If you are interested, please contact Caroline on (01939) 262102 to discuss any further details or to book your place on the waiting list.
