Merchant going for gold
A new Shropshire-grown maize dairy feed called Crimped Gold is being launched by Market Drayton agricultural merchant BCW Agriculture Ltd later this week.

Leading animal nutritionist Professor David Beever and veterinary surgeon Owen Atkinson will speak to an audience of livestock farmers at a meeting at Adderley on Friday about the advantages of feeding Crimped Gold to dairy and beef animals.
Crimped Gold is fermented crimped maize grain, with excellent feeding values. It can lift yield to much higher levels than feeding other concentrate feeds, primarily due to its unique high levels of by-pass starch and digestible energy.
The closure of the Allscott sugar factory has left a gap in the rotation of many arable growers. The maize will be planted on these arable farms in East Shropshire in late March using the Samco plastic system and combine-harvested mid October onwards.
"After combining at about 35 per cent moisture content the maize grain will be crimped and hauled the relatively short distance to the north of the region for ensiling.
"The maize crop will leave more than 25t/ha of very valuable organic matter in the fields which will improve soil structure like no other crop," says Dai Morgan, an agronomist with BCW Agriculture.
