Leading Shropshire sheep farmer Nick Davies of Brakes Farm, Downton, near Ludlow is hosting a winter focus meeting on behalf of the National Sheep Association on Wednesday, January 31, from 4.30-7.30pm.
A practical and informative meeting looking at key management issues pre-lambing, the event starts in the lambing shed with advice on basic set-up and ways to improve lambing accommodation, followed by a practical demonstration to show the correct delivery of vaccination, vaccination equipment, storage and use of races to minimise stress to sheep and the user.
Back in the the warm, Rosie Booth (Intervet vet) and Nigel Richards (Intervet account manager) will lead a discussion on the benefits of vaccination.
Lloyds Animal Feeds and Alltech will outline the essential feed requirements for the lactating ewe and the importance of maintaining ewe condition with the right raw materials.
Independent consultant and farm manager, Andrew Blenkiron, will lead a discussion on winter rations and their financial implications, the pros and cons and cost comparisons of a variety of feeding systems.
