1,200 entries at airfield

Around 1,200 entries of tractors, vehicles, farm machinery, plant and small tools are anticipated for the quarterly collective sale at Forton Airfield, Montford Bridge, near Shrewsbury on Thursday.

The popular sale, which attracts buyers and vendors from all over the country, Ireland and even mainland Europe, is an ideal place to sell a wide range of items that are surplus to requirements.

Auctioneers Halls, who conduct the sales, have reported a recent increase in heavy plant machinery, including excavators, dumpers, Bobcats and forklifts, at the auctions.

"This collective sale provides an ideal opportunity for farmers to liquidate machinery that they no longer use," said auctioneer Tom Jones, of Halls.

"With the current cashflow problems in agriculture, it's a good time to sell unwanted machinery, equipment and vehicles.

"These sales are tremendously well supported, attracting vendors from Shropshire, Wales, Worcestershire and bordering counties and buyers from all over the UK, Ireland and even as far away as Poland."

Halls, who also hold a collective sale at Stone Saleground, Kidderminster, on the last Friday of the month, were delighted with the success of their inaugural auction of plant and machinery at New Road, Featherstone, Wolverhampton last month.
