Cable blaze in field tackled by Market Drayton firefighters

Market Drayton firefighters were called out to tackle a blaze in a field which involved a small amount of electrical cable.

The fire broke out at about 12.30am today at Maer Lane which is alongside the A53, near the town.

One crew from Market Drayton attended the scene and used a hose reel jet and breathing apparatus to bring the fire under control by 1am, when the crew left the scene.

A spokesman from Market Drayton Fire Station said: "On arrival the incident was found to be in a field alongside the A53, and involved a quantity of electrical and other cable on fire in a field.

"Crews used one hose reel jet and breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.

"The fire is being treated as doubtful origin and our colleagues from West Mercia Police attended."
