The man in his 40s had to be cut free from his vehicle after his car left the road and went through a fence and into a field near to Lutwyche Hall on the B4371 in Longville, near Much Wenlock.

He suffered a head injury and was immobilised on a spinal board by ambulance crews at the scene before being taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital as a precaution. But the driver is not believed to have suffered serious injuries from the crash, which happened shortly after 4pm on Saturday.

Claire Brown, spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "Crews found a car, in a field, which had sustained significant damage.

"The driver, a man in his 40s, was trapped inside the vehicle due to the damage caused.

"Upon assessment, ambulance crews found the man had suffered a head injury but no other obvious injuries. Crews worked with the fire service at the scene to carefully extricate him from vehicle and, due to the nature of the collision, they immobilised him with a neck collar and spinal board as a precaution.

"The man was conveyed to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further assessment and treatment."

Inspector Andy Smith from West Mercia Police, said: "The male driver had to be cut from his vehicle by the fire service and was taken to hospital as a precaution but at this stage is not believed to have any serious injuries."

Another two people had to be released from their cars following a crash in Weston under Lizard on Saturday.

A third person had been removed from one of the vehicles before firefighters attended the accident on Weston Cross Roads just before 8pm.

The two people were freed from their vehicles using hydraulic cutting equipment and the road was cleared shortly after 8.30pm.
