Harmony, a female Labrador cross Golden Retriever, is being sponsored by Concord College’s student outreach team and is living with her puppy raiser Geraldine who is sharing her experiences.

She said: “Harmony has slept soundly from the moment she arrived.

"I have begun introducing basic obedience commands such as ‘sit,’ ‘down,’ and ‘stay,’ and Harmony is picking things up really quickly – especially when there is a food treat as a reward.

“Harmony is also making excellent progress with toilet training and we have started building a more positive association with car travel too – she was a little unsure at first, but she’s absolutely fine now.”

In a letter to Acton Burnell-based Concord, Maria Novell, director of fundraising and marketing at Guide Dogs, said: “I am delighted to send the college an update on Harmony’s progress.

“After speaking with Geraldine, she describes Harmony as funny, mischievous and a very quick learner who loves cuddles and playing.

“We think that Harmony sounds like a wonderful, bright little puppy who has got off to a great start with the early stages of her training.”

She added that further information will also include what Harmony will be doing over the next year as she begins to learn the fundamentals that will help her develop into a fully-fledged guide dog.

Guide Dogs has thanked Concord for being part of their ‘Guide Dogs family’ and helping to provide life-changing support to those who need it.

Concord’s head of marketing Vanessa Hawkins said: “Sponsoring a Guide Dog puppy is an idea we have had for the past year or so and the student outreach team chose Guide Dogs as their main charity to support last academic year.”

Harmony is one of a litter of 12 puppies.
