Homes plan next to Oswestry primary school will cause 'carnage'

Residents fighting plans for three houses to be built next to a busy school and community centre say it will be "an accident waiting to happen" if given the go-ahead.

Resident Claire Arnold has criticised the plans lodged for three homes in Cabin Lane, Oswestry, on a plot of land near to the Meadows Primary School and Kidszone Day Nursery at Eastern Oswestry Community Centre.

She said: "The plans seem not only ridiculous to most but also an accident waiting to happen because it's such a busy area and road, especially during school drop-off and collection time. It will cause absolute carnage."

The proposed site is also next to Cabin Lane Church, which Mrs Arnold said would be "significantly impacted" by the development.

"The development would block the church fire exit, which is a real safety concern," she said.

"If you don't know the area three houses doesn't sound like an issue but if you know the area and know how small the plot of land is and where it's situated, you will understand the problems it will cause in the community. It'll be extremely dangerous."

Now Mrs Arnold and fellow residents are planning to set up a petition, as well as looking to launch a crowd-funding appeal to purchase the land.

She said: "We're keen to gather support to keep it as a community garden and believe the space should be for church or school use. If the plans are thrown out, the site will be available at a reduced price, which is when we can think about purchasing the land."
