Telford college launches new football partnership with Wolves
Wolverhampton Wanderers are launching a new football coaching scheme in Shropshire, in a pioneering partnership with Telford College of Arts and Technology.
The Championship club is joining forces with TCAT to run a level three BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport (Excellence and Performance) from September.
Male and female students on the course will have chance to play for Telford College's football teams, under the guidance of professional coaches from Molineux.
An open evening is being held at TCAT on May 11 from 6pm for anyone interested in finding out more about the new scheme. You can also register through the TCAT
Facebook page or www.tcat.ac.uk/wolves
TCAT director Adrian Beckett said: "This a brilliant opportunity for any young people in the area to access a fantastic education, while receiving the best football coaching around.
"Learners will get the opportunity to train in and wear the famous old gold Wolves shirt as they play each week, representing both the college and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
"It really is a unique opportunity, and one we are extremely proud to offer."
He added: "We would encourage all interested young people and their families to come along to the open evening on May 11.
"It will be an opportunity to see a presentation about the opportunities this partnership offers, both from ourselves and our colleagues at the Wolves.
"There will then be an opportunity for questions before a tour of our first-class sports facilities and the chance to meet staff.
"This really is a course for aspiring young footballers, both male and female, who hope to make a big impact in the game."
Laura Nicholls, Sport & Education Manager at Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, said: "Wolves Community Trust are delighted to be working in partnership with Telford
College to develop their football programme.
"It's a great opportunity for us to build our education and sport offers in the area, offering young people in Telford the chance to study and play 'the Wolves way'."
Students on the course will also have chance to attend Wolves matches, and visit the club's training complex at Compton.
They can also work towards additional coaching qualifications, and potentially access part-time employment, through the Wolves Community Trust scheme.
