Shropshire students take part in cookathon
With rolling pins and chopping boards at the ready, more than 30 students took part in a Let's Get Cooking Cookathon as they tried to create the perfect curry.
Pupils from The Marches School in Oswestry took part in the event through their cooking club.
Armed with chicken biryani and naan bread recipes, students competed in their houses to create the winning dish.
Year seven student Jacob Munro said: "I've really enjoyed cooking biryani and naan breads as it's something I've never made before. I'm part of the Let's Get Cooking Club so was keen to get involved in the Cookathon. I have learnt how to make things from scratch which is great."
The cookathon has been held for the past five years and this year 33 students took part in the two and a half hour competition, along with eight members of staff and volunteers.
Anna Doggart, school governor and Let's Get Cooking Club coordinator, said: "A huge thank you has to go to our supporters, as without them, events like this would not be possible.
"The Dining rooms, Treflach Farm, Woodforms Oswestry and Graig Farm of Newtown are greatly valued supporters of Let's Get Cooking Club at The Marches."
Let's Get Cooking is a national initiative to try to get children, their families and the wider community to learn and develop new cooking skills. It is now the largest national network of healthy cooking clubs in the country.
As well as school-based clubs, it also provides training and support for other organisations running cooking activities for children, young people and adults.
So far, more than 2 million people have benefited from Let's Get Cooking – by attending club sessions, taking part in community cooking events, or benefiting from skills passed on at home.
