Youngsters taking part in the National Citizens Service scheme were grilled by Jon Tandy, mayor of Shrewsbury, Julian Price, the managing director of Revive, Gillian Richards, chair of governors for Walford and North Shropshire College and Susan Coleman, Shropshire Council's business support officer in Shropshire.

They were bidding to win support for charity fundraising ideas.

The event was held at the Walford campus of Walford and North Shropshire College and student Tom Hickman, 16, of Shrewsbury said it was a worthwhile exercise.

The Priory School pupil said: "It was a great experience, before I went in I was nervous but when we started talking the nerves went.

"They gave us some criticism but positive criticism so it was good."

Two groups of 15 have been taking part in the scheme, which is designed to help young people make a difference.

Ideas pitched included a charity evening with a blind auction, tombola, face painting and bar. The other was for an open mic night.

The events will raise money for Hope House, MIND charity and the Shrewsbury Foodbank.

The teenagers will hear if they are to receive help from the 'dragons' in the coming week.
