The Marches School looks to transform care home into sixth form
The largest secondary school in Shropshire could expand into a nearby care home to allow it to open its new sixth form.
The Marches School, in Oswestry, will offer A-Level classes next September.
School governors would like to use the Fairholme care home building, in Morda Road, for the new classes when its residents move to a new site currently being built in Shrewsbury Road.
School officials are now in talks with Shropshire Council and have submitted a planning application.
Head teacher Sarah Longville, said: "We wholly recognise that this could be an excellent opportunity for the school. We are currently in the process of exploring ideas and entering into initial discussions with Shropshire Council."
Leader of Shropshire Council Keith Barrow said: "Shropshire Council recognises this could be an excellent opportunity for the school and north Shropshire.
"We are currently in talks together over the future use of Fairholme Residential Home."
