Remorseless rapist has prison term reduced
A remorseless rapist locked up for two attacks on a teenager in Mid Wales had his sentence cut by top judges.
Parminder Singh, 22, from Wolverhampton, was jailed for 11 years at Caernarfon Crown Court in February after he was convicted of twice raping his young victim.
Yesterday Mr Justice Edwards-Stuart, sitting in London's Appeal Court, allowed the appeal saying the sentence was too long.
The girl, who was attacked in Newtown, was left traumatised by her ordeal, said the judge, who added that she was left "humiliated and degraded by two forms of rape".
Singh, of Heathfield Lane, "showed not a shred of remorse", the crown court judge said. Mr Justice Edwards-Stuart said Singh had shown a "demonstrably callous attitude" to his victim.
"The appropriate sentence should have been nine and a half years," the judge concluded. Singh will serve half of that term before qualifying for automatic release.
