Crew tackles chimney fire at Much Wenlock hotel - but breakfast is not disturbed

A fire broke out in a Much Wenlock hotel's restaurant, but did not disrupt this morning's breakfast service.

The chimney fire was at The Raven Hotel, Barrow Street, at about 11.15am.

A fire crew from Much Wenlock used chimney rods, small gear and a thermal imaging camera to tackle the fire.

Kirk Haywood, owner and manager of The Raven, said the fire was contained to a wood-burning stove and flue, in the restaurant area of the hotel complex, which is in its own single-storey building.

He said: "It was a very minor thing, really, the fire crew were here in three minutes.

"Some guests were just about to have breakfast, but the staff worked around it and I think the guest were quite amused to have firefighters in uniform around."

The restaurant did not need to be evacuated and no one was hurt.
