Peter Horsley died at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford on August 5, aged 64.

Born in Nottingham, he was the son of the late Ronald and Joan Horsley.

After living in Nottingham the family moved to Wolverhampton, living in Finchfield and then Tettenhall.

Mr Horsley attended Warstones Junior School and Wolverhampton Grammar School before going on to study law at Guildford College of Law. Following his final exams he was awarded the national prize for criminal law.

He joined Wolverhampton solicitors S.W. Page Son and Elias as an articled clerk, qualified as a solicitor in 1975 and became a partner in the company in 1978.

The partnership later merged with Darby Scott Rees and became known as Rees Page, with Peter working in their Bilston office until his retirement in March last year.

Andrew Lund, a senior partner at Rees Page, said: "We had all hoped then that he could look forward to a pleasant time in his retirement, but in the event he has been taken from us at a cruelly young age.

"Peter will be remembered most of all for his dry wit and the unfailing courtesy which informed his dealings with both colleagues and fellow professionals."

John Coulson, a former legal team manager at Wolverhampton Law Courts, said: "My dear friend Peter was generous in spirit and professional in all aspects of his work.

"He touched everyone he came across with his warmth, generosity, friendship and willingness to help.

"He crossed generations, was a great friend to my family and we shall all miss him greatly."

For more than 30 years Mr Horsley lived in Bridgnorth where he was well known, liked and respected.

He was also a good tennis player, having been Wolverhampton junior champion, and for many years was a member of Bridgnorth Tennis Club.

He never married and is survived by his sister Elizabeth.

His funeral, which will be a humanist service, will be held at Telford Crematorium on August 27 at 2pm.
