But Julie Stephens, who raised the issue, said she had been unable to find out who was responsible for the jetty, which is a feature of the canal outside her home in Market Drayton.

Mrs Stephens, of Waterside Drive, said the jetty was taken up last year and left as an empty frame.

She said: "I asked the neighbours if they thought it would be replaced and they were told somebody would be coming out to put new wood in the jetty.

"Six months ago workmen came out and repaired half of the jetty.

"However the rest was left and now it is a hazard.

"In the spring and summer a lot of children play in the area and there are a lot of dog walkers.

"It is a busy area.

"I am worried children will start playing on the jetty and trying to balance on the edges.

"This could lead to somebody falling in. If anything happened I would be so upset.

"I have tried to contact Shropshire Council – but they said they were not responsible for the jetty. I then phoned the Shropshire Union Canal society and told the same thing.

"I have run out of options and do not know who to contact next.

"Something needs to be done and soon before an accident happens.

"All the other jetties in the area are well looked after so I am not sure why they one has been left in the state it is in."
