Micky Mellon's Barmy Army - new beer to toast Shrewsbury Town's success

Shrewsbury Town fans enjoying a successful start to the season will be able to toast their club's achievements with a new beer – Micky Mellon's Barmy Army.

The zesty pint, which has been brewed especially by Marston's Brewery, is only available in The Charles Darwin Pub, in Sutton Road, close to Shrewsbury's Town's ground in Otley Road.

Brewed in honour of the new manager, who has made dramatic improvements to the division two side, the pint promises to be light, zesty, fruity and hoppy.

Landlord Rob Jones said: "I decided to have this beer as I had been having a conversation with the brewery about having a beer exclusive to here. I decided to name it after Micky Mellon as he has made such a dramatic improvement to the side in a short space of time.

"Everything is so much better than last year and it was a great start to the season. He seems to be the fan's favourite. I hope the beer is as much of a success as he is."

Rob had three barrels of Micky Mellon's Barmy Army delivered in time for Saturday's match, when Town beat Luton 2-0 – and all three have been drunk. But fresh supplies will be arriving at the pub in time for Town's next home game against Carlisle on September 16.

"The Town are doing right well, the way everyone is going about their work on the pitch. The fans are so upbeat and Micky has got a good bunch of lads playing now," added Rob.

"More deliveries of the beer will be coming in all the time and we will have this beer on sale all through the season."
