Police step up patrols over Market Drayton graffiti

Police have warned vandals they will be putting on extra patrols following a graffiti attack.

The warning comes after graffiti was discovered near Market Drayton Library in Cheshire Street.

Graffiti discovered this week includes the words "skin up" on walls by the town's memorial benches, "we rule" on a tree, "SFC M.D.E" on the library sign and a large cannabis flower on a wall.

The graffiti, which has been reported to the police, has been written in blue spray paint and can be seen by Poundstretcher and the car park near the town hall.

Residents in Market Drayton, who believe young people may have been responsible, say it tarnishes the reputation of the town.

Gerald Garratt, from Highfields, said: "These kids must have nothing else to do. Years ago in Market Drayton there were two cinemas and a youth club but what is there now for the kids to do. Not that it's right."

Roger Hughes, Shropshire Councillor for Market Drayton, added: "This is a sign of the times and this is what happens when people are caught and nothing happens to them."

Police spokesman Kieren Bodill said:

"We will be putting in extra patrols to locate those involved."
