Raymond Evans was doing national service with the RAF in Market Drayton and he met Maureen when she worked at Boots the Chemist.

After getting to know each other love blossomed and they married at St Peter's Church in Stoke-on-Tern on January 30, 1954.

The couple moved to Pelsall, near Walsall, where they have lived for the majority of their married life, apart from 20 years in Heath Hayes, near Cannock.

Ray, now 81, and originally from Darlaston Road, Walsall, was a carpenter by trade and travelled across the country doing jobs.

He was employed by London firms Gleeson's and Laing's.

Maureen, 77, helped to bring up their daughters Lynn, Karen and Gail along with the couple's two sons Mark and Wayne.

They now also have eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Maureen said they have also enjoyed caravan holidays, having been a shared interest.

To mark the milestone anniversary the couple enjoyed time with their family. They organised a buffet and day out in Cheshire.

On their marriage, Maureen said: "It has just always worked out for us."
