Money to help improve Greenfields Methodist Church and its community hall in Greenfield Street has been provided by the Veolia Environmental Trust.

A new toilet will be created, wood block flooring will be improved, new heating and insulation will be installed and the building will be redecorated. Exterior work to the building's stonework and doors will also be carried out.

The grant was awarded at the trust's quarterly board meeting last month, when 77 grants totalling almost £2.5m were awarded to community and environmental projects across the UK.

In the last five years, the trust has awarded £450,238 to projects in Shropshire.

Work will now take place with the church to finalise the start date for the project.

Reverend Sarah Wood said: "This grant is brilliant news."
