Mudslides were today causing problems in Mid Wales with delays on the A458 between Llanfair Caereinion and Welshpool after the road became partly blocked.

At Whitchurch, the A49 was shut this morning at its junction with the B5476 Tarporley Road after the island was flooded by water running off nearby fields.

The B5398 Waymills in Whitchurch was also closed all day yesterday after becoming blocked by standing water.

Flood alerts, where flooding is possible and people are warned to be prepared, remained in place today on the River Severn in Shropshire and the Upper Teme at Onibury and Leintwardine.

Flood barriers were going up in Shrewsbury this afternoon. The barriers in Frankwell will go up at 3pm. The long stay car park will remain open but the short stay will close at 2pm.

Shrewsbury Town's game tonight at Colchester United was under threat due to the weather, with a second pitch inspection due at 3.30pm today. Ludlow Races, which was due to take place tomorrow, has already been called off due to a waterlogged track.
