Casey Breese, from Caersws, near Newtown, was playing in the village playground on July 29, 2011, when he pulled his foot free from the goal net, causing the post to fall on him.

Nine officials from Caersws Football Club appeared at Mold Crown Court yesterday for a short hearing in front of Judge Niclas Parry.

The club is accused of breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. The case, brought by Powys County Council, was adjourned without a plea being entered and the club will next appear at the court on January 9.

Judge Parry ordered that any defence statement should be served by the club two days before the hearing.

In an unrelated incident Casey's older sister Kelly Marie Breese, 18, died when her car hit a tree on the B4568 between Llanwnog and Aberhafesp, near Newtown on October 13.
