Fans set to gather for Wales Rally action
Motor sport fans were today gearing themselves up for world class racing ahead of the Wales Rally's visit to Shropshire/Wales border.
The rally will hold a stage in Mid Wales tomorrow before heading to North Wales for the first time.
That visit will see events including a family friendly RallyFest being held at Chirk Castle near Oswestry, on Saturday.
Newly crowned 2013 World Rally Champion Sebastien Ogier heads the star-studded field which also includes two past Wales Rally GB winners from Scandinavia, Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala..
While the rally starts in Snowdonia this evening following a glittering ceremonial start in front of Conwy Castle, the action comes to the Powys area tomorrow.
Among the high points will be a stage around the world famous Sweet Lamb circuit from 10.20am while a remote service, allowing fans to get a closer look at the back up teams in action, will be held in Newtown town centre from noon.
The regroup area for the teams will be on Broad Street and the cars will then proceed to the remote service area in the town centre car park.
The fun will continue on Saturday when the rally makes its way to the Chirk area for the first time. Two special stages will be held on the roads around the castle from 2.20pm.
A special competitive section has been laid out on the private roads around the castle and more than 150 of the world's best rally drivers will be providing some spectacular action. The family RallyFest will be held at the castle from 11am.
Newtown mayor Rina Clarke said the arrival of the rally to the town would provide a massive boost to trade. She said: "It is a real gift for the town to have all these people here and we are absolutely intent on capitalising on it."
