Shropshire schoolgirl Evie set for her own charity run
A sporty nine-year-old is raising money for disadvantaged children by doing her own sponsored run on Sunday for charity.
Evie Laurie, from Shifnal, has set out her own run, covering around four miles, to raise money for this year's Children in Need Appeal.
Evie, who was only hoping to raise £10 through her fun run, has now raised £80 for the charity from donations from her friends, family and people at school.
Little Evie, who is currently in Year 5 at Birchfield School, will be covering a route through the town, going along Shrewsbury Fields, across Innage Lane, through the town's Millennium Sensory Gardens and St Andrew's Churchyard, before coming back round to her starting point – a route she intends to run twice, totalling around four miles. She said: "I was going to do it last year but I didn't feel like it, but now I've done a bit more practise at school."
Evie, who said PE is her favourite lesson, says she chose Children in Need because it helps a lot of different charities, as well as other children in the UK – and because she likes the programme's mascot Pudsey.
Evie's mum Liz, said: "We're very proud, she's always thinking of others, so when she heard it was Children in Need again, she wanted to do something as soon as possible."
