Developer changes Market Drayton store bid five times
Plans for a new superstore in one of Shropshire's market towns have been changed by developers – just days before they were due to be discussed by councillors.
Alterations to the proposals for the supermarket off Greenfields Lane in Market Drayton include reducing the size of the site so that it is all one side of a junction and all on land owned by the applicant Danbank Developments.
A petrol station would be moved, new access created, a dedicated bus access introduced and sports pitches retained.
The new ideas were added to the plans on Wednesday – the fifth time amendments have been made to the application since it was submitted on June 12 – and the day before they were expected to be discussed by Market Drayton Town Council.
According to Shropshire Council planning department's website amendments have also been made on August 15, August 7, August 1 and July 5.
Tesco has expressed an interest in the site but no contract has been signed.
Councillor Mark Whittle, of Market Drayton Town Council, who is also chairman of the town's chamber of trade, said: "People need to be aware that the plans are changing, I have seen four different plans on a document on the same day."
Fellow town councillor Roy Aldcroft said: "I have never known a planning application take so long to prepare. We were all set to make recommendations but we have had so many changes it is unreal. We need time to consider it."
Danbank Developments said they made the changes "following consultations with Tesco".
Andrew Price, from Danbank, said: "It shouldn't be a concern because this is still an outline application.
"If we get approval there will be consultation again for reserved matters or a detailed application, we are just at this stage showing the indication or principal of the retail scheme.
"The latest plan takes into consideration the objections we have had from Marley Mount Crescent and we have looked at the objections from the residents of Hampton Drive. We have tried to listen to all the objections."
