Ernest Mangwiro was found at 1am with his "head down, mouth open and eyes shut" at HMP & YOI Stoke Heath, near Market Drayton during a night shift.

At a misconduct hearing, the Nursing and Midwifery Council was told Mangwiro fell asleep on October 16, 2009. He was dismissed in June 2010 following an internal disciplinary hearing.

The hearing was told Mangwiro, whose career was unblemished, noted that he had observed the inmates at that very time, indicating he must have completed the records in advance.

Mangwiro claimed the allegations were made up by staff "out to get him". Further charges that he fell asleep on a night shift starting on October 13, 2009 were found not proved.
