Trading at the market hall in Newport's High Street was unaffected by the incident on Saturday morning.

Traders were asked to move their vehicles from the rear car park of Newport Market Hall as a precaution and part of the area was briefly cordoned off.

It is believed the damage was caused by the recent wintry weather.

No-one from the market hall was available to comment today.

The market hall, in Stafford Road, was built in 1860.
